Rock Steady is a song of revelation. It’s about a starting point, of innocence and naivete and a rose colored view of the world, that changes as life pulls us along …whether we’re ready or not. Revealing ugly truths, messy contradictions, uncertainties and just an unrelenting masquerade of disappointments.

The strength in this song is the outcome of this revelation: the eye opening realization that, while we can’t control everyone and everything around us, we can choose to “Rock Steady” – which means to live our lives authentically, out loud, to the beat of our own drum, full of love and in full color, looking ahead, as we see fit… for no one else and by no one else’s standards. Freely. Unapologetically.

Because as the inevitability of life’s certainties – change and death – find their way into our lives, nothing else will matter.

While this song is personal to me – having navigated through many social stigmas and expectations about the right course in life – I believe it’s meaning can resonate across so many different lives and platforms. It’ relevant to our current political climate, its relevant to our current social climate, and its relevant to the lives to the many of us who get stuck in our past or can’t move beyond imposed expectations.
